TxDOT Crews in North Texas Are Ready to Respond to Icy Roads

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Road crews in North Texas are ready to respond to icy road conditions with wintry mix of sleet and snow in the forecast early Tuesday morning.

Tony Hartzel is with TxDOT and said his crews are in emergency response mode.

“We’re on 12-hour shifts and we’ll be doing that until the event is done. We’ll be driving around looking for areas to treat and assistant in any way that we can,” he said.

Forecasters are predicting the temperatures to drop into the teens overnight.

“The temperatures are going to stay below freezing for quite some time. So, it depends on how much precipitation we get that will determine how long that will remain on the roads,” said Hartzell.

Icy roads can wreak havoc on most resident’s morning commutes. It’s a potentially dangerous situation Hartzell said people need to take seriously.

“People may not be ready for this Winter weather. They may not assume that it will be on the roadways but there are so many bridges and overpasses that will ice over and we expect that they will in this situation,” he said.

The crews will be in emergency response mode until the majority of the roads have thawed.
