City of Plano Plans on Keeping Ride Share Bike Companies in Check

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Plano is considering putting restrictions on ride share bike companies that expand their businesses from Dallas to the suburbs.

The bike companies have been in Plano since November, though not as prominently as Dallas.

The city’s Peter Braster said they plan to include requirements and expectations in permits the companies will be forced to receive.

“Where you can park your bicycle…how many bicycles can be parked in one place…how often do you have to pick them up regularly…how often do you respond to complaints,” he said.

Cities such as Highland Park have placed tough restrictions on the bike companies after a growing number of residents launched complaints about the clutter of the bicycles along city streets and in parks.

Braster said the city wants to make sure that doesn’t happen in Plano.

“We’re not really getting in the way of their competition. We’re just setting up the rules that everybody must play by,” he said.

The city is expected to vote on the issue in the next few weeks.
