Amid Concerns About Data-Mining and Privacy, the FTW Facebook Data Center is Expanding

Fort Worth Facebook Data Center (FACEBOOK)

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Despite Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg facing two days of intense questioning about using Washington about privacy issues and user data, the Facebook Data Center in North Fort Worth is still expected to expand.

Cyber-security expert Shawn Tuma told WFAA-TV, Facebook users shouldn’t be surprised by their information being out their.

“When someone gives you a free service, you are the product because it’s your data that helps them make a profit and the only way they can do that is by collecting that data and reusing it.”

The Fort Worth Data Center still plans to add 450,000 square feet to its already 150-acre campus.

It’s one of 11 across the United States and Europe.

In the first of two Capitol Hill appearances this week,  Zuckerberg apologized to senators for mistakes that let a political data-mining firm — Cambridge Analytica — use information about tens of millions of Facebook users to try to influence the 2016 election.

In his opening statement, Zuckerberg told a Senate panel that Facebook didn’t do enough to prevent its tools from being used for harm. This, he says, goes for fake news, foreign elections interference, hate speech and data privacy. He said he is “responsible” for what happens on Facebook

And Zuckerberg insisted Facebook does not let advertisers buy information about the social media platform’s users.
