Memorial Growing for Fallen Dallas Police Officer

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A memorial honoring the Dallas Police Officer killed in the line of duty this week is growing.

Officer Rogelio Santander died Wednesday after being shot at a Dallas Home Depot Tuesday afternoon. Another Officer and a store Loss Prevention Officer remain hospitalized. The suspect is in custody.

Santander was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. Outside of the Police station sits a patrol car with his photo and a growing memorial. It’s covered with cards and flowers. Hector Escamilla and his 4-year-old daughter hung drawings on the memorial that his children made for Police.

“We teach our kids to respect Police Officers,” said Escamilla. “We’re supposed to love them as much as they love us.”

Local organizations have posted signs and ribbons across the city to show support for the department.
