McKinney Councilman Backtracks on Racial Profiling Allegations

(McKinney, TX) – A McKinney city councilman has backed off claims of racial profiling by a McKinney police officer after he was arrested for not signing a speeding ticket received this week.

Councilman La’Shadion Shemwell initially said the officer profiled him for being black with dreadlocks, but after seeing bodycam footage of the exchange, he has since admitted to being abrasive.

Shemwell has been arrested before, but was acquitted in 2016, for displaying a weapon in a threatening manner during a Tarrant County protest against police brutality.

Shemwell was not a councilman at the time.
