PONDER (WBAP/KLIF News) – Multiple people were killed in a shooting at a home in Ponder, just west of Denton.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office’s Lieutenant Orlando Hinojosa said police made the discovery around 8:30 Wednesday morning after responding to a burglary call at the home in the 600 block of Lone Star Park Drive.

Hinojosa said early Wednesday that residents who live near the home didn’t need to worry about an ongoing threat. He later said the shooter killed himself.

“I can confirm that the shooter turned the gun on himself,” Hinojosa said.

The Ponder Volunteer Fire Department said in a press release that five people were dead and one was taken to the hospital.

Both the Denton County Sheriff’s Department and Ponder Police are investigating the shooting. Neither a motive nor the relationship between the shooter and the victims has been released.
