Arlington Voters Will Have a Say in the Council’s Future this November, Term Limits Will Be on the Ballot

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Arlington voters will have a chance to decide on term limits this November. At a meeting Monday night, people who support the citizen-led 6 year term limit proposition thanked the council for agreeing to put it on the ballot after a stream of events following a petition.

Zack Maxwell presented a petition with over 11,000 signatures in favor of term limits in July, he said he’s happy the council is finally moving this forward. “With almost 400,000 people and with the city being on the incline there’s no doubt we have leaders, we have people ready to stand up and ready to serve,” Maxwell said.

Supporters of term limits say they are ready for new blood. However, some citizens want to keep the council as is because they think it has been the glue to the city.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud of this Council, this Mayor…how they’ve dealt with these attacks,” Clay Kelley said. “We have a strong history of winning, just look at the redevelopment and what’s going on… I’m strongly opposed of any term limits,”  he said.

Mayor Jeff Williams said he is doing this to make sure every voice is heard. “We are being threatened by this proposal and we need to make sure we rise up, we need to pull together to protect our city,” Williams said.

Williams said he wants voters to decide what’s best for Arlington on November 6th.
