Hundreds of North Texas Audition for “American Idol” in Plano

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – Are you the next American Idol?

Hundreds of people lined up outside McCall Plaza in downtown Plano in the hopes of getting on ABC’s hit reality show.

Residents started showing up around 5 a.m. on Labor Day. The auditions started at 9 a.m.

Kyle McCoy was part of the first crowd of hopefuls to arrive.

“Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve watched American Idol…saw Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood win and I’ve just always wanted to come and audition,” he said.

Arronn Mendoza got in line around 7 a.m. to try and secure a spot on the upcoming season.

He said he’s no stranger to the process because he also auditioned for NBC’s version of the singing competition…”The Voice”.

“I think I’ve gained more confidence with my performing and my entertaining because the singing has always been there,” he said.

The Plano Police Department urged drivers to find alternate routes due to heavy congestion around the downtown area during the auditions.
