WAXAHACHIE – (WBAP/KLIF) – The National Weather Service has confirmed a high-end EF-0 tornado touched down at Waxahachie’s new high school on Saturday afternoon.

There was widespread damage at the brand new campus, including several shattered windows, and a bay door blown off.
Several students were inside the school when the tornado took place.
District officials say they got all students to a safe place until the storm blew over, no one was hurt.

Meantime, Waxahachie ISD students were not due to be in school today because of their ‘Fair Day Off’ holiday.

No word on what’s planned for Tuesday as school officials make plans to clean up and repair damages from the storm.

Possible Tornado Damage Being Investigated at Waxahachie High School; Ellis County and Hillsboro, Hill County

WAXAHACHIE – (WBAP/KLIF) –  National Weather Service Meterologist Steve Fano says officials are investigating damage Saturday afternoon to Waxahachie High School; with a tornado “signature” showing on the radar as that damage occurred.   Fano says meterologists believe Texas suffered from four brief tornado hits Saturday, as cold and warm fronts met, moved, became intertwined, and then also reacted to upper level remnants of Sergio blowing in from the Pacific.

Investigators are checking damage from possible tornado strikes in Ellis County (Waxahachie High School damage reported); as well as damage to at least two houses in Hillsboro, Hill County, and areas in Navarro, Freestone and Henderson counties.

A flash flood watch for most of North Texas has expired, and much smaller chances for rain remain overnight, though it’s due to ramp up again by Monday, and last through at least Wednesday, with arrival of another, very powerful cold front, currently in the High Plains, and expected to move into the Southern Plains on Sunday.  It will drop North Texas temperatures into the 20s in the Amarillo area Sunday, and bring temperatures into the 40s’ to North Texas late Sunday through Monday.  And rain.  More rain will arrive with this impending weather front; forecasters advise new flash flood watches are likely to again be issued.
