Rehabilitation Continues for a Large Animal Seizure – Van Zandt County

CANTON – (WBAP/KLIF) – The SPCA is trying to rehabilitate more than 90 animals seized in what appears to be a case of severe neglect and or abuse in Van  Zandt County near Canton.

SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies says the SPCA seized 60 pigs, 9 dogs, 8 horses, 5 donkeys, 3 goats, 3 chickens, 1 turkey and 1 cat at the home.

Davies says most of the animals had no access to food or water, and were found in varying conditions of distress.  She says several of the animals found inside the home were discovered in mounds of trash, feces and urine.

The case moves to the Van Zandt County District Attorney for consideration of charges of neglect and cruelty.

SPCA is hoping to adopt the animals, which included several pregnant pigs, which have since given birth, adding to the numbers.

Davies asks us to call police or the SPCA if we suspect animal abuse or neglect.
