Assigning Homework is Against the Rules at a Cleburne Charter School

Cleburne, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Students at a Johnson County charter school never have homework because teachers aren’t allowed to assign it.

About 110 students attend class at Kaufman Leadership Academy from 8 to 5, and have much smaller classes so that students get more one on one attention.

Founder Theresa Kauffman tells WFAA the reason she decided on the policy was because, “Two to three hours of homework was interfering with their family life.”

Kaufman says though students like not having homework, test scores will determine if it will stick around in the future.

The charter school opened about three years ago. Kauffman says she looked at research before making the move.
