Trinity Metro’s TexRail on Track to Open After Receiving Federal Approval

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Trinity Metro has received federal approval to run the entire 27-mile commuter rail line, TexRail. Trinity Metro Officials say TexRail, will begin full service from the downtown Fort Worth T&P Station to DFW airport Thursday January 10th. TexRail, a long anticipated project was set to open last week but still needed approval from the Federal Railroad Administration, something that was halted because of the partial government shutdown.

Background: TexRail can take passengers to and from the DFW Airport but part of the line still needed federal approval before it can travel through the intersection under Spur 280, and pick up or drop off passengers in downtown Fort Worth. Trinity Metro spent millions of dollars to upgrade this rail intersection however, even though the improvements have been made, the Federal Railroad Administration still has to certify the intersection is safe for passengers. TexRail was supposed to open to the public Jan 5th but the partial Government shutdown delayed the approval process.
