Jesuit Dallas Sued by Former Student Alleging Sexual Abuse by Former Priest

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas is facing a lawsuit by a former student who claims he was sexually abused by a former priest.

Attorney Hal Browne says his client was allegedly sexually assaulted by former Jesuit Priest Donald Dickerson when he taught at the school in the late 70’s.

The lawsuit argues the school should’ve done more to stop the alleged abuse.

“Either that they knew or should have known based on this guy’s history. It’s our understanding based on news reports and what’s called “Bishop’s Accountability” that there had been two prior claims,” said Browne.

The lawsuit is seeking damages in excess of $1 million.

“For the psychological mental anguish and those kinds of things that he suffered as a result of what he went through,” said Browne.

Dickerson’s name was on a list of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse released earlier this year. He’s now deceased.

Jesuit Dallas President Mike Earsing  issued a statement Tuesday that didn’t comment on the lawsuit specifically and read in part:

“We reported to the community in December that Don Dickerson was on a list released by the Jesuits’ Central and Southern Province against whom there were credible allegations of abuse of a minor. We continue to ask our community to provide compassion and support for all victims of sexual misconduct and abuse.”
