President Trump Addresses Immigration, Energy During Texas Visit

(WBAP/KLIF) – The President touched on immigration and the oil and gas industry while visiting San Antonio and Houston Wednesday.

During a Republican fundraiser in San Antonio, President Trump was so struck by horrific stories from the border that he summoned the press for an impromptu news conference. The President said he would have to send more military to the southern border. He said he didn’t plan to meet with reporters, but felt he needed to after hearing stories from Texans who live near the border.

“I said to these people, can you tell the Press?” said the President. “Because this is a thing that’s been going on for years.”

A long time Texas land owner told the President the people crossing the border are different than they used to be.

“They’re not good guys,” the landowner said. “It’s a different deal than years ago when you would put out some food; mi casa, sus casa. When you came back and the food was gone you knew someone had been there that day.”

President Trump recalled a story from a Texan about bodies found on his ranch. He said if migrants are dying in Texas, they’re dying in other places along the border.

Hours later, the President made the short trip to the International Union of Operating Engineers International Training Center in Crosby, Texas.

“You take pride in your work and our nation will take pride in you,” Trump told union workers. “We have great respect for the work you do.”

The President signed an executive order expected to boost the oil and gas industry and make it easier to fast-track energy products and give sole authority to cross-border energy pipelines. Trump spoke about the accomplishment of his administration in oil and gas.

“Since the election we have create 5.5 million new jobs,” said President Trump. “And more than 60,000 brand new oil and gas construction jobs.”

An afternoon in Texas highlighted by what the President continues to call a growing crisis at the southern border.
