Carrollton Fire Dept. Launches Life Saving App for Citizens

CARROLLTON (WBAP/KLIF)- The Carrollton Fire Department launches an app that can help save a life. The PulsePoint app is free for citizens and easy to use. It’s connected to the dispatch center and will alert a citizen if they’re close to someone having a cardiac arrest. “As soon as someone calls 911 the citizen will be alerted of the incident the same time we are,” said Carrollton Fire Chief Gregg Salmi. Salmi said his goal for the Carrollton Fire Department is to have the number one save rate in the country. “One of problems is the gap between the time a person has a cardiac arrest and our arrival. For every minute that goes by there’s a 10% less chance of survival,” Salmi said. “Our response time is usually around 5 minutes. We need the citizens help to bridge the gap,” he said. This was all made possible after a donation of $17,642 from a Carrollton-based manufacturing company Western Extrusions. Carrollton residents as well as residents from Farmers Branch, Coppell and Addison are all able to use the app. If you aren’t trained in CPR, the Carrollton Fire Department is offering CPR classes. Classes are offered on the first and third Saturdays of each month at Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E. Crosby Road), as well as to local businesses and schools by appointment. To register for a Saturday class date, visit //cityofcarrollton.com/signupnow. For more information or to schedule a workplace or school training, call 972-466-4901. The app also offers helpful tips on how to perform CPR.
