Forming Gulf Weather System to Dump Heavy Rains on Texas Coast

FORT WORTH – WBAP/KLIF – Meterologists with the National Weather Service are closely watching a weather system west of Cuba, which is expected to move west across the upper Gulf of Mexico, dumping heavy rainfall along the Texas coast.  The system could form into a tropical depression by the time it enters the Gulf of Mexico west of Florida.

Meterologist David Bonnett tells us the heaviest rainfall is expected to be south of a line drawn by Interstate 10.   It’s expected to move inland over the northwest part of the Gulf of Mexico sometime late Monday or on Tuesday.

A widespread area with rainfall in the amounts of one to three inches is expected with some areas experiencing in excess of three inches of precipitation is possible, causing localized flooding.  The increase in clouds and rainfall will bring a break from the heat and keep temperatures closer to average for this time of year.  It will also bring rainfall to areas recently suffering from extensive drought.
