Gas Prices Spike Across Texas Following Attack on Saudi Arabian Oil Facilities

NORTH TEXAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – In the wake of the attack on two major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia last weekend, gas prices continue to spike across Texas.

The attack wiped out six percent of the global oil supply, at facilities that produced 5.7 millions of barrels of oil a day, which created a ripple effect in the global marketplace.

According to AAA Texas, the statewide average went up twelve cents to $2.39  a gallon for regular unleaded.

Prices in Dallas rose 15 cents to $2.45 for a gallon of regular unleaded and Fort Worth saw a 13 cent increase with prices hovering around $2.43 a gallon.

The agency’s Daniel Armbruster said it’s a situation that some predict could see a resolution soon.

“Saudi Arabia says they’re going to have everything back on line by the end of September. If that’s true, these spikes will be short lived but really its going to depend on how long it takes for that nation to fix those facilities, get them back up and running and into the global supply chain,” he said.

The attack escalated tensions between the United States and Iran. The Trump administration blames Iran and Iran denies any involvement.

Both sides have threatened military action, a move Armbruster said could impact prices even more.

“A retaliation could cause the markets to react in a negative way for drivers forcing oil prices higher and gas prices higher…but we’ll have to wait and see what happens there,” he said.

In the meantime, the AAA Texas said driving the speed limit, avoiding jackrabbit starts and stops, keeping tires inflated and minimize the use of air conditioning are just a few tips to make a habit to save money on gas.
