Texas DPS Releases Video Controversial ’16 Shots’ Traffic Stop in South Dallas

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas DPS has released bodycam video from a fatal South Dallas traffic stop in which an armed man was shot 16 times.

Troopers tried to stop 27-year old Schaston Hodge last August for failing to signal when he took off.

A commotion is heard after Hodge pulls into a driveway and gets out of his car

” … (inaudible) … multiple shots fired … “You okay?  Yeah, I think I’m good.”  … “Put up your hands, put up your hands.”

Video captures him holding a weapon as he exits his car, and lying on his back after the shots were fired.

Hodge had pulled into his grandmother’s driveway. She eventually opens a door and was told to shut the door and that the officers would meet her in the front of the house.

A grand jury declined to indict the two troopers involved.

It’s not known if Joshua Engleman and Robert Litvin have returned to work, according to the Dallas Morning News.  The publican had previously obtained the autopsy report of the incident. Hodge suffered shots to the head, front and back torso and both legs.

The incident happened during a time when DPS troopers were on patrol in the South Dallas region to offset a shortage in Dallas Police officers.
