Big Business Prompts Widespread Growth in Irving

IRVING (WBAP/KLIF) – City leaders in Irving say big business is expected to fuel more growth in 2020.

According to Mayor Rick Stopfer, Irving has more Fortune 1000 headquarters per-capita than any other city in Texas. It’s ranked eighth in the country for the number of headquarters.

During his annual State of the City Address, Mayor Stopfer said a top priority is acquiring and sustaining jobs.

“We are number two in the metroplex as far as the number of jobs we have,” Stopfer said.

With more jobs has come other types of growth. 550 single-family homes were built in Irving last year.

“When people think of the City of Irving they don’t think about the fact that we’re building single family homes,” said Stopfer. They think about the big businesses and thing of that nature. But we have so much growth and development in those areas.

The Mayor said what the city has been able to accomplish over the past year was attainable through “innovative strategies and sustainable planning.”
