John Pendolino: To beer or not to beer

As you may have heard, SMU is seriously considering allowing vendors to sell beer at its football and basketball games. In fact, at this point it’s practically a foregone conclusion that the school will permit the sales beginning with the basketball games in January. The idea is to boost attendance, keep fans happy and put the school in line with other universities.

So, in case you’re wondering, here’s a sample of the beer-selling policies at other institutions of higher learning.

The University of Houston sells beers at its games.

The University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Texas in Denton are considering it.

At the University of Texas at San Antonio, football fans can buy alcohol at the Alamodome with the profits going to the city of San Antonio.

At the University of Texas at Arlington, beer is sold at some events, including games, in the new College Park Center.
