Keep your car doors locked and windows up while in a parking area. Avoid parking next to vans, or cars with tinted windows.
Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. Put them in the trunk or out of sight. Be sure to have your keys ready before going to your car.
When approaching or leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings. And you can always ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving the store.
