Freda Ross: 1/6/15 Eggs. We love ’em!

Boiled eggs are a simple food that everyone seems to love.

People may disagree about the way to enjoy them, warm, cold, soft or hard boiled, but most agree they are a yummy addition to many meals.

Deviled eggs was one of the first dishes I learned to prepare as a child and I am the designated deviled egg person for family gatherings. So I was intrigued when my sister told me about a different way to boil the egg.

The trick is to actually not boil them at all.

You place the eggs in cold water, bring the water to a rolling boil then remove the saucepan from the burner and cover. How long you leave the eggs in the pan will make them soft or hard boiled.

For runny soft-boiled eggs (barely set whites): 3 minutes
• For slightly runny soft-boiled eggs: 4 minutes
• For custardy yet firm soft-boiled eggs: 6 minutes
• For firm yet still creamy hard-boiled eggs: 10 minutes
• For very firm hard-boiled eggs: 15 minutes

The perfect hard-boiled egg has no green ring around the yolk and the insides are creamy and mellow.

Yummy!
