LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – An attorney for 26 people involved in an accident in which a freight train struck a veterans parade float in Midland says they have settled their lawsuit against Union Pacific Railroad.
Lawyer Kevin Glasheen, who represents the families, said Friday the settlement is confidential but they "are very satisfied" and the amount is "sufficient to give them security and comfort in their lives." Union Pacific did not immediately return messages.
Four people died and many others were injured in the November 2012 crash. An investigation by a federal agency blamed the accident on city and parade organizers. The plaintiffs claimed a short warning from the train crossing lights and gates was the principal cause.
A trial involving 17 plaintiffs not part of the settlement is set for Jan. 26.
