ARLINGTON (WBAP 24/7 NEWS) — Voters in Arlington will have the chance to decide the future of red light cameras in the city.
Council members Tuesday night approved placing the issue on a May 9th municipal ballot.
Two groups opposed to the cameras collected more than 11,000 signatures to put the issue up for a vote. They claim the cameras are unconstitutional and nothing more than a money grab. Supporters say they improve safety and reduce accidents.
Arlington has 23 red light cameras that bring in an estimated two million dollars annually to the city.
