FARMERSVILLE (WBAP/KLIF News) – Police release new information related to a crash involving a Greenville fire truck.
Investigators found no mechanical issues with the fire engine that slammed into a Dairy Queen in Farmersville earlier this month.
The driver, who was an employee of a repair shop in Denton, was taking the truck back to Greenville.
The city told WFAA-TV the truck had been in the shop for “minor repairs,” but it’s not clear what the most recent problem was.
A report released Friday said the driver became distracted and lost control.
Toxicology results are pending.
Press release from the Farmersville Police Department:
A major accident occurred on 01/20/2016 at 11:31 a.m. at the Dairy Queen located at 201 E. Audie Murphy Parkway involving a Greenville Fire Engine striking the Dairy Queen building. Representatives for Siddons-Martin, Dairy Queen, and the City of Greenville have since met and evaluated the mechanical operation of the Fire Engine. The parties have reported that there were no mechanical issues discovered that attributed to this accident. The black box data was reviewed and does not indicate any specific malfunctions with the Fire Engine. Investigators have followed up with the driver of the Fire Engine, who indicated there were no mechanical issues of which he was aware with the Fire Engine. It appears that the driver of the Fire Engine became distracted while driving and lost control of the Fire Engine. The driver was not able to regain control of the Fire Engine and the Fire Engine struck the Dairy Queen. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results from the Department of Public Safety Lab before closing the investigation into this matter.
