Virgin America Says It Won’t Reduce the Price of Seats

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) Virgin America says it will fly out of Dallas with empty seats rather than reduce the cost of them. Two years ago, Virgin and Southwest Airlines added flights to its schedules after the Wright Amendment was lifted at Dallas-Love Field. As a result, the carriers, along with Spirit Airlines, reduced fares to fill more seats. Virgin says, however, it is not playing the game. The Morning News reports CEO David Cush says the carrier will not sell one-way tickets at the current market price of around $30, and will instead wait until it can price those fares higher. Virgin says it doesn’t have any plans to leave the market and that the longer-term outlook is still good.
