Officer Shot While Responding to Call

UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: Euless police have identified the slain officer as David Hofer, 29.  He served for five years with the New York Police Department before moving to North Texas in Jan. 2014.

Officer Hofer was shot and killed while checking out “suspicious activity” at J.A. Carr Park on Tuesday afternoon.  The person suspected of firing at Hofer was also shot and killed.

“This agency and this community will not forget David’s servant heart and his dry wit,” said Euless Police Chief Mike Brown in a news conference late Tuesday night. “We ask for respect and the consideration for the families and for the Euless Police Department family at this time.”

Hofer is survived by his parents, fiance, sister and brother.

More information is expected to be released on Wednesday.

UPDATED 5:08 p.m.: Euless Police say the officer and the shooter have both died from their injuries.

The officer died while in surgery at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Grapevine.  The suspect died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Police are not releasing the name of the officer.

 

EULESS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Yellow crime scene tape is stretched around a park in Euless after an officer and a suspect were shot, according to the city.

It happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in J.A. Carr Park.  “The officer was contacting a subject in the park,” said Betsy Deck, assistant to the city manager.  “We don’t know who fired the shots.  The officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital.  Their conditions are not known.”

Oakwood Terrace Elementary School and Harmony Science Academy were placed on lock down, but Deck said the order was in the process of being lifted.

There’s no word yet on what led to the shooting.
