DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) Two giraffes that have made the Dallas Zoo home moved to West Texas. The zoo said goodbye to Sandy and Jamie. The two females are now living in Abilene’s new giraffe safari habitat that opens in April. Jamie was named for James Sikes, a Dallas boy who died from a brain tumor just days before the giraffe was born. The Association of Zoos and Aquariums recommended the giraffes be transferred, according to the Morning News. You may remember baby Kipenzi, whose birth captivated internet audiences around the globe last summer. She died at the Dallas Zoo while she was playing. The herd there now stands at 10 but the zoo has been advised to encourage breeding, so another baby could be on the way.
