Denton’s parking experiment is a year old.

WBAP – The city of Denton’s parking experiment is now a year old. In late March, 2015 Denton made the parking spaces on east Hickory Street back-in only. To get into one drivers have to pull past their intended spot, signal a turn, then back in at an angle.  Not backing into a Hickory Street parking space can result in a citation and a $25.00 fine.   At the time it was put into place the Denton City Council said the idea was to make it easier for parked vehicles to pull back into traffic. It did not generally address whether it was more difficult for those motorists to pull into their parking spaces in the first place. City officials now say the majority of drivers are comfortable with the new system, but there are no plans at this time to extend it to other Denton city streets.
