USGS Includes Human-induced Earthquakes in New Mapping

(WBAP/KLIF) – The United States Geological Survey released a new Earthquake map that for the first time shows where human-induced Earthquakes are possible.

The USGS reports seven million people are affected by the human-induced tremors in six states. The two biggest areas affected are Texas and Oklahoma with an area of North Texas included.

Several Earthquakes have been centered in Irving in recent months and felt across the area.

While most of the Earthquakes are minor, the Chief of the National Seismic Hazard Mapping Project, Mark Petersen, said he could not rule out a larger Earthquake.

Scientists are still trying to figure out of the type of shaking from human-induced Earthquakes is different from natural Earthquakes.

The USGS maps are updated every six years.
