HOUSTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Investigators will soon begin digging for the remains of a UNT student who has been missing for 19 years.

It comes after a person of interest began cooperating in the disappearance of Kelli Cox.  She was last seen July 15, 1997 when she took a field trip with her criminal justice class to the Denton County Jail.

“Who knows if we can reach resolution and that we find out what happened to Kelli,” said Jan Bynum, Cox’s mother.  “If not for Kelli, I’m certainly optimistic that they can get resolution for some other young ladies’ families who have been missing for some time.”

The digging will be in a portion of Brazoria County, south of Houston.

“There’s not the same adrenaline rush that there was in the beginning when the phone would ring or the doorbell would ring or we would see that the Denton Police Department was calling, but there’s always that thought, ‘Is today the day?'”

Anyone with information should call the Denton Police Department at (940) 349-7948 or (940) 349-8181.
