WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Congressman from North Texas is looking forward to returning to work, despite this week’s violence at the Capitol.

“I have no concerns about safety,” said Rep. Joe Barton.  “I would say the safest city in America is probably the federal corridor in Washington D.C.  We have a really good Capitol Hill police force and the secret service does a good job of protecting the President.  It’s very safe… In an open society, you can’t have 100% security, but I would say our security system in Washington is better than it was in Belgium.”

A man was shot by officers after drawing a weapon at a checkpoint at the Visitor Center of the U.S. Capitol on Monday. The gunman was taken to the hospital. A female bystander also sustained minor injuries.

Visitors and staff were told to “shelter in place” and the White House was briefly put on lock down.
