DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Zoo has joined a motion to dismiss a lawsuit from an animal rights group over elephants the zoo recently welcomed from Swaziland.
Zoo CEO Gregg Hudson says they joined the lawsuit as interested parties after the group Friends for Animals sued the federal government.
“Our lawyers filed a motion to also dismiss on the fact that it is a moot point since the elephants are here already in the United States,” said Hudson.
Hudson says the elephants are better off at the zoo than if they would have stayed in the drought-stricken African country. The elephants were also brought to the United States to ease over population.
Other elephants were welcomed at zoos in Wichita, Kansas and Omaha, Nebraska.
