Ex-Texas Officer Accused in Death Cleared of Past Complaints

ken johnsonFARMERS BRANCH, Texas (AP) – Records show a former suburban Dallas police officer charged in the shooting death of a teenage burglary suspect and the wounding of another boy while off duty was cleared of two excessive force complaints in a previous job. But the records also show Ken Johnson was inconsistent about disclosing the complaints when applying to Farmers Branch.

WFAA-TV reports the complaints came when Ken Johnson worked as a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer, a job he held before being hired by Farmers Branch police in 2015.

Johnson resigned from Farmers Branch after being charged with murder and aggravated assault in the March 13th shootings in Addison, which authorities say came after Johnson saw the two burglarizing a vehicle and chased them in his vehicle.

His attorney didn’t immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.
