Council to Discuss Fate of ‘Tent City’

Dallas Tent City 4DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas City Council is expected to get an update on plans to close “Tent City” when it meets on Wednesday.

As many as 250 people live at the homeless encampment under Interstate 45 in the downtown area.

The location has been the site of repeated police calls for violence and drug use.

According to a recent report, at least 50% of those staying in “Tent City” have psychiatric issues and health problems.

Council members are expected to discuss using several unoccupied city or county buildings as temporary shelters.

“Tent City” is slated to close in early May.
