FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Fort Worth City Council decided against expanding the Stockyards historic preservation district from 60 to 140 acres.
The Zoning Commission had recommended the larger district.
Council heard from dozens of people who called on the city to adopt the larger boundary that included several buildings, including the Swift meat packing plant.
The designation also protects areas like Billy Bob’s, the Mule Barns and shops along Exchange Avenue, according to Mayor Betsy Price.
Councilwoman Ann Zadeh cast the only vote against the plan. She encouraged supporters of the larger designation to try to convince property owners to preserve history.
