WBAP/KLIF – Representatives of Dallas Fire-Rescue will be walking door-to-door through the south Oak Cliff neighborhood where an elderly woman died in a house fire early Thursday morning. 81 year old Johnnye Hughes couldn’t open the burglar bars covering the doors and windows of her home on Blue Creek Drive near Loop 12 and Lancaster. Her system was an old one, not easily opened from inside, and no longer meets fire codes. Fire-Rescue investigators say many of the homes in her neighborhood are the same, so they’ll be talking to residents, helping them find ways to make their security systems safer.
