DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Two council committees will tackle some big issues when they meet on Tuesday.
The Dallas City Council’s Quality of Life Committee plans to discuss how to regulate shopping cart thefts.
Several homeowners have complained about the number of shopping carts left in their alleys, vacant lots and yards.
The stores in those areas said they send out crews to sweep the neighborhoods and gather up the stolen carts.
The city has two possible courses of action: repeal the current ordinances regulating shopping cart theft and pass new regulations, or it can leave things as they are.
Meanwhile, the Public Safety Committee will talk about what to do about the city’s smoke shops.
Among the listed problems it will consider are complaints of gambling, K2 sales and prostitution.
The committee is considering proposals to make the shops register as convenience stores, which could give the city more authority to regulate their operations.
