DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A street leading to Prairie View A & M University has been officially renamed after University Graduate, Sandra Bland.
In a Friday ceremony attended by students, activists and Bland’s relatives, signs for “University Drive” were replaced by “Sandra Bland Parkway”.
Twenty-eight-year-old Bland, was pulled over last July by a Texas State Trooper for making an improper lane change. During the traffic stop, she was arrested and died three days later in the Waller County Jail. Her death was ruled a suicide.
The trooper who arrested bland has been fired and charged with misdemeanor perjury.
