Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A grand jury in Dallas County has completed its indictment of Johnny Manziel on one charge of assault that caused a bodily injury. The Dallas County district attorney’s office released the indictment Tuesday morning.
The charge could carry a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine, but the sentence could be lighter given Manziel’s lack of a criminal record.
One of Manziel’s lawyers says a judge will set bond on Wednesday. Bob Hinton says Manziel is in California but will return once bond is set.
“Johnny’s prepared to do what he’s got to do,” Hinton says. “He understands exactly what the procedures are, and he’s good with that.”
Hinton says he will try to get the charge dismissed, saying he doubts the case would go to trial.
Manziel’s lead attorney has released a statement saying he respects the grand jury’s decision, but “they only hear part of the case.”
Jim Darnell writes that a grand jury only hears “what the DA chooses to share with them. We don’t know what that was.”
He writes “Johnny will certainly plead ‘not guilty.'”
