Bush Institute to Host Childhood Obesity Seminar

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – It is an event dedicated to stopping the spread of childhood obesity. The George W. Bush Institute is hosting Tipping the Scales for Children on Tuesday.

Dr. Kenneth Cooper, who founded The Cooper Institute, says they are very concerned about the rates seen in Dallas County.

“The national average is only 31 percent in school-aged children who are obese but in Dallas County it’s 50 percent,” said Dr. Cooper.

One of the suspected reasons is the high level of poverty in Dallas County.

Tipping the Scales features Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings as well as several health leaders.

Tickets for the event are $50 to attend. More information is available at www.smu.edu/tippingthescales.
