FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Fort Worth police officer who was shot seven times during a pursuit in March will be discharged from a rehabilitation center on Tuesday.
Officer Matt Pearce was critically injured while chasing a fugitive and his son in a heavily wooded area near Interstate 30 and Hulen Street on March 15. Ed McIver Sr., 43, was killed in the shootout. He was wanted on several felony charges including assault. His son, Ed McIver Jr., was captured after an hours-long manhunt. He has been charged with attempted capital murder, evading arrest, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Pearce spent a month at John Peter Smith Hospital before being transferred to Texas Rehabilitation Hospital. He will rest for a few weeks and then begin the next phase of his recovery in Houston.
