DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The elephant family at the Dallas Zoo is growing…one of the five elephants rescued from Swaziland in March has a new baby son.
“Incredibly, last Saturday night, Mlilo, our 14-year old Swaziland elephant, had a baby boy,” said Gregg Hudson, president and CEO of the Dallas Zoo. “The baby elephant was on the light side of the weight scale, about 150 pounds. But otherwise, he’s doing very well.”
The mother elephant has put on about 300 pounds since arriving at the zoo, and Hudson says the others are doing better, also. He says had they not rescued the five Swaziland elephants in March, they probably would not have survived the drought in their home country.
Neither the mother nor the baby elephant could be reached for comment.
