WACO (WBAP/KLIF) – Baylor University Head Football Coach Art Briles has been fired and President Ken Starr has been demoted following a sex scandal involving the football program.
The Baylor University Board of Regents has announced that Head Football Coach Art Briles has been suspended with the intent to terminate.
Ken Starr will remain Chancellor and professor at the Baylor University Law School. Dr. David Garland has been named interim University President.
The actions were taken after the University acknowledged that administrators directly discouraged complaints of sexual assault and at least once “Constituted retaliation against a complainant for reporting sexual assault.”
An investigation from an outside counsel found specific failings within both the football program and Athletics department leadership to identify and respond to a pattern of sexual violence by a football player and to a report of dating violence.
Athletic Director Ian McCaw will keep his job but he was sanctioned and placed on probation.
The University also plans to self-report to the NCAA.
