UPDATE (8:15 a.m.) – The SWAT situation is over. Two suspects came out of the apartment after police filled it with gas. A total of two men and two women have been taken into custody.
GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News) – Police in Garland said two carjacking suspects have barricaded themselves inside an apartment.
The incident started around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. “We received a call of an aggravated robbery that happened in a residential area in the 1800 block of Patton Drive,” said Lt. Pedro Barineau. “The victim said he was robbed at gunpoint by several male subjects who were carrying handguns and long guns, possibly shotguns or rifles. They stole his vehicle and left the scene.”
Police found the vehicle at some apartments off Glenbrook and Miller Roads. “A second vehicle believed to have been involved was also located at the scene. The tags showed that it had been reported stolen in Dallas where the victim was also robbed at gunpoint. We also found shotgun shells inside the vehicle,” said Barineau.
One woman has been taken into custody.
Officers are waiting on a search warrant so they can enter the apartment. “We are attempting to communicate with them. As of right now, they are not communicating back to us. Our SWAT team is here and our negotiators are on scene. We are trying to lure these people out as safely as possible,” added Barineau.
People in the area are being asked to evacuate. “This is a dangerous situation. We are asking them to leave for their safety. Our top priority is to make sure the community is safe while we take these aggravated robbery suspects into custody,” said Barineau.
