AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Family, friends and law enforcement officers are set to attend the funeral for a Texas sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed at his home north of Austin last week in what authorities said appeared to be an attempted burglary.
The funeral for Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office is set for Tuesday morning in Austin.
The 54-year-old used his police radio early on the morning of July 25 to report people prowling behind his house. Investigators arriving moments later found Hutchinson lying on the ground in his backyard in Round Rock, about 15 miles from Austin. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Friends of Hutchinson who worked with him in the sheriff’s office are among those set to speak at the funeral.
