Dallas Zoo to host after-hours Pokemon GO event

Dallas Zoo 2

The Dallas Zoo will be hosting an after-hours event Saturday night, August 27, specifically for Pokemon GO players.

The zoo usually closes at 5:00 pm on Saturdays during the summer, but it will be open from 6:00-9:00 Saturday night to allow Pokemon GO players to catch a slew of the virtual creatures. The zoo will be placing virtual lures at many of its 30 Pokestops, which essentially act as virtual bird feed and attract more Pokemon to zoo grounds.

“They’re still pretty driven by this Pokemon GO thing,” zoo marketing director Laurie Holloway said. “We have three gyms and more than 30 Pokestops, so we kind of expect some people to come over here.”

The Dallas Zoo will keep its restaurants open and will also have some of its animals out in their habitats during the event.

Pokemon GO has caused problems at some public locations around DFW and the world, but Holloway says they’ve had no problems at the zoo, giving them the ability to host this event.

“We’ve had no issues with it,” Holloway said. “We’ve been very, very appreciative and very lucky that people are treating the zoo and animals with respect when they play.”
