Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A group of elected officials from Dallas is asking for a sit down with the leadership of the DISD; the subject…South Oak Cliff High School.  State Senator Royce West says he’s heard from his constituents, and they want a new school.

“Frankly, we’re echoing their thoughts because we represent them,” said West.  “All of us have had calls from our constituents there, to work with them to encourage the school district to build a new school there.”

South Oak Cliff High School has a history of maintenance and safety problems, leading some parents to call it a “sick building”.  Most recently, a gas leak forced evacuations at the school twice at the start of the school year.

The DISD is talking about spending $50+ million on maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the building, but in the letter, West said that “might serve to provide temporary band-aids and patchwork solutions in the short-term – but given the clear enormity of this problem, these funds may do little to eradicate a situation that is beyond a simple fix.”

The letter was also signed by Representatives Rafael Anchia, Toni Rose, Eric Johnson and Roberto Alonzo of the Texas House of Representatives, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, and Dallas City Council member Carolyn King-Arnold.
