Scammers targeting church-goers in Farmers Branch

Money in the form of many large bills

FARMERS BRANCH (WBAP & KLIF News) — There’s a new scam affecting church-goers in North Texas, and it involves roadkill.

Two men dressed as roofers are reportedly knocking on the doors of elderly women who attend Royal Haven Baptist Church in Farmer’s Branch and telling them they saw a squirrel climb into their pipes while working on a roof across the street. They then offer to remove the animal for cash.

At least a dozen parishioners have had this happen to them, but only one has given the men the money. She said the squirrel the men brought back had a petrified body, indicating it had been dead for much longer than that day.

It’s believed the culprits are using the church directory to pick their targets. The directory has names, addresses, phone numbers, and photos of members of Royal Haven Baptist Church.

Police say to make sure not to allow anyone into your home that you don’t know or haven’t contacted already.
