CEO: Toyota will bring 1,000 new hires to North Texas next year

toyota-under-constPLANO (WBAP & KLIF News) — Toyota announced it will be hiring 1,000 new employees for its new Plano headquarters, with 350 of those jobs currently posted.

Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz says that means the roughly 3,000 other Toyota employees who work at the company’s headquarters will be accepting a relocation bonus and moving to North Texas. The jobs that will be available mainly consist of sales, marketing, information systems, and quality engineering.

“I love the authenticity, the can-do attitude, the hardworking attitude that Texans have,” Lentz said.

He said he expects all employees to be in Texas by the middle of 2017, either in the headquarters itself or temporary units, and that the new building should be completely ready for everyone by the end of 2017.

The jobs that will be available at Toyota will range across the board as far as salary goes, but most will require some level of college education, Lentz said.

Toyota’s move may also have an effect on other companies moving too, with Lentz saying at the minimum, Toyota’s ad agency will likely move either a satellite or its entire operations to the Dallas area.

“If there are new companies today announcing [they’ll move to Texas], we may have had some impact on that,” Lentz said. “But I think a part of it is, it’s not just us. It’s what’s been created here in Dallas and in North Dallas.”

The new headquarters spans over nearly 100 acres and will have over two million square feet of office space, seven buildings, and multiple courtyards.
